British DanceSport Association Welcomes Equality Dance – A New Era of Inclusivity in DanceSport

The British DanceSport Association (BDSA) is delighted to announce that Equality Dance has joined our ever-growing community! This partnership marks a bold step forward in our shared commitment to celebrating individuality, diversity, and inclusivity within the world of DanceSport.

Founded in November 2017 by the passionate and visionary Pete Meager, Equality Dance empowers dancers to choose their roles—whether leading or following—regardless of gender, fostering a truly inclusive environment where everyone can express themselves freely on the dance floor.

As the proud organisers of The UK Equality Open, Equality Dance is breaking new ground by bringing competitive same-sex and equality dancing to fresh locations across the UK. Each year, they nurture emerging talent and open doors to a wider range of participants in same-sex and ‘open couple’ categories. Their work is not just about dance; it’s about creating a movement where everyone is welcomed and celebrated and they have the freedom to be themselves on the dancefloor, be accepted, and enjoy dancing.

At the BDSA, we believe in the power of dance to unite people. Our core values of integrity, freedom, and inclusivity align perfectly with Equality Dance’s mission. Together, we are committed to creating a dance sport environment where every dancer feels valued, inspired, and energised. Safeguarding and integrity are at the heart of our collaboration, ensuring that every dancer can perform with confidence and joy.

Equality Dance will proudly adopt the BDSA Safeguarding Policy and our approach to good governance, further strengthening our collective commitment to the highest standards in dance sport.

This November, Equality Dance will host their 5th #UKEO, with hopes of welcoming more dancers from across the European equality dance circuit as well homegrown couples from the UK. Additionally, they will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Fun Competition at the iconic Rivoli Ballroom on Saturday, 5th October 2024. Do not miss out on these exciting events! More details can be found at Equality Dance

Together, we are making dance sport a place where everyone belongs, and we could not be more excited about the future.

‘It’s an absolute pleasure to start a new relationship with the BDSA with a shared vision of freedom and inclusivity on the dancefloor, whether it be at a social or competitive level. We hope this brings a greater partnership for community-based dancing and explicitly offering dance for all.’
